Hey guys what's up? I hope you all are doing well. Today I am going to discuss the recent rise of video streaming apps or OTT apps and where they are standing in India. These days youths don't watch much tv as they are addicted to their smartphone most of the time. And they are the primary target of these companies. So will video streaming apps replace traditional tv in the long run?
Frankly speaking the rise in video consumers and ott apps in India are only after the launch of Reliance Jio. In the last 2 years many Indian as well as international OTT apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime has been launched in India.
Many Indian media houses also launched their own OTT apps which streams the same content from tv to mobile like Star India's Hotstar, Viacom18's Voot, Sony pictures Sony Liv and the soon to be launched ZEE's Zee5.
They are mainly advertisement based. But international OTT's are subscription based. Among them Netflix is purely premium with subscription starting above INR 500 per month. Amazon Prime is priced much lower at INR 999 per year. In the long run, Amazon Prime seems to be in favourable position as their price is less than Netflix and they also provide free fast delivery or products from Amazon app for prime customers. In countries like USA many traditional media houses already started feeling the threat from OTT's and as result of which some big mergers and acquisitions are going on.
So which is your favourite among the apps and do you really think they can replace traditional TV in future? Please share your views in the comments section below.
